平均との差の絶対値の平均値は「散らばり」の一つの指標ですね。鈴木(1985，p82)
では「『平均偏差』と呼んでいる」とあります。ですから，平均偏差を比較している
と言えるのでは。
Levene を強く薦めているといえるのは，Milliken and Johnson(1992,p 22-23)で
す。これを読めばとりあえずのメリットはわかるのでは。ただ，平均値ではなく中央
値を使う Brown and Forsythe のほうがいいということで，多くの本はBrown and
Forsythe を採用して，Levene は無視しているようです。例えば，Winer et
al.(1991), Kirk(1995), Keppel(1991). 歪みが大きい場合はMilliken and
Johnson(1992)でも中央値を使えばが改善されると指摘している。
いずれにしても，それぞれのテストの長短については Conover,Johnson, and
Johnson(1991)（未見）が基本文献になっているようです(Keppel でも引用されてま
すね）。
しかし，等分散に関してそれほど神経質になる必要があるのかな。一番小さい分散と
一番大きい分散の比が４倍未満であれば分散分析はＯＫと考えていいといっている本
がいくつかあります。サンプル数がだいたい同じかどうかで様子は変わるようです
が。
