Call for Tutorial Proposals : PAKDD08
The 12th Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining
(PAKDD 2008)
Osaka, Japan
20-23 May, 2008
URL: http://www.ar.sanken.osaka-u.ac.jp/pakdd2008/
The PAKDD conference series has established itself as a prestigious forum for
the exchange of the latest research results in data mining. Held annually at
attractive Australasian cities, the conference provides unique opportunities
for data mining researchers, practitioners, developers, and users to explore
new ideas, techniques, and tools, and to exchange experiences. The previous
events were held in Singapore, Melbourne, Beijing, Kyoto, Hong Kong, Taipei,
Seoul, Sydney, Hanoi, Singapore and Nanjing.
PAKDD 2008 will be held in Osaka, Japan. Attendees are expected from all over
the world, as is the tradition for PAKDD. It is also expected that there will
be strong local interest, and in particular, strong interest from many local
attendees in learning about all aspects of data mining.
An integral part of PAKDD 2008 will be the tutorial program. We invite
proposals for tutorials in all areas of data mining, including introductory
and overview tutorials as well as state-of-the-art tutorials and data mining
in-practice tutorials. Tutorials will run for 3 hrs in total.
A tutorial proposal should include the following information:
Title
A brief summary of the topic
Outline including a short summary of each section
Specific goals and objectives
Expected background of the audience
A biographical sketch of the presenter(s)
Audio Visual equipment needed for the presentation
Possible tutorial topics include
Introduction to Data Mining Algorithms
Text Mining
Machine Learning
Statistical Methods
KDD Process and Human Interaction
Data and Knowledge Visualization
Ubiquitous Data Mining
Data Mining in Industry
Tools for Data Mining
Mining Structured/semi-structured/unstructured Data
Stream Data Mining
Mining Biomedical Data
Mining Multimedia Data
Mining Temporal Data
Mining of Web, Community and Social Network Data
Privacy Preserving Data Mining
KDD Process and Human Interaction
and many more - the list is meant to be suggestive rather than limiting. The
topics relevant to the conference can be seen in the CfP of the main conference
Proposals should be no more than 5 pages in length, including the presenter's
name, affiliation, address, email, phone, and fax. Electronic submissions must

Akihiro Yamamoto (Email: yamamoto (at) i.kyoto-u.ac.jp)
Proposals will be evaluated based on relevance and content. Presenters of
selected tutorials will receive an honorarium, which may be split between
multiple presenters for a single tutorial. Comprehensive tutorial notes should
be provided (printable slides) by 20 April 2008, for production of copies for
distribution at the conference. They will also be published on the PAKDD web
site and available to attendees.
Important Dates:
